Panthers Conclude Queens Fall Frenzy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Florida Tech men's and women's swimming team concluded competition at the Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens University on Sunday afternoon with Day Four.
 
WOMEN'S EVENTS:
 
Women's 400 Freestyle Relay:
The Panther women's top relay performance in the 400 Free Relay came from the group of Debora Xavier, London Best, Miranda Olhasso, and Kate Helminiak taking 12th place with a time of 3:28.96 (Xavier: 52.57, Best: 52.74, Olhasso: 51.90, Helminiak: 51.75), which also set a new program record for Tech.
 
The team of Melissa Zucco, Christina Ramirez, Torie Whitbeck, and Maja Malarz took 17th with a time of 3:31.02 (Peters: 27.17, Sichtnik: 29.28, Bullard: 25.71, Helminiak: 23.72).
 
Women's 1650 Freestyle:
Abby Briggs was the lone Panther that qualified for the final in the 1650 Free and claimed 27th place with a time of 18:03.87.
 
Women's 200 Backstroke:
Melissa Zucco set the program record in the 200 Back with a time of 2:03.74, earning a 13th place finish in the event.
 
Women's 200 Butterfly:
Briggs also earned a 23rd place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:08.47. Teammate Sam Bullard finished in 31st with a time of 2:12.34

MEN'S EVENTS:
 
Men's 400 Freestyle Relay:
The men's relay team's best performance in the 400 Free Relay, came from the team of Adam Szczerba, Efe Ongoren, Akos Hajagos, and Dylan Ostolaza, who posted a combined time 3:01.97 to earn a 10th place finish (Szczerba: 45.59, Ongoren: 45.88, Hajagos: 45.15, Ostolaza: 45.35).
 
Men's 1650 Freestyle:
Efe Ongoren earned the top time for the Panthers in the 1650 Free with a sixth-place finish and a time of 15:49.33, which was good enough for an NCAA B Cut time. His 1000 Free time also qualified for NCAA B Cuts.
 
Brayden Hohman claimed 19th place with a time of 16:28.84 and Collin Meadows earned 25th with a time of 16:51.27
 
Men's 200 Backstroke:
Zachary Reese turned in an impressive sixth place finish with a time of 1:49.39 in the 200 Back. Dylan Ostolaza also earned points for the Panther men with a time of 1:49.49.
 
Connor Bryant (1:53.47, 19th), Gaspard Thierry (1:56.91, 21st), Slater Sabel (1:57.36, 22nd), and Colin Goddard (2:09.41, 28th), rounded out Tech's swimmers in the finals.
 
Men 100 Freestyle:
Adam Szczerba was the lone Panther to qualify for the 100 Free finals. He finished in 30th with a time of 45.71.
 
Men's 200 Butterfly:
Five Panthers qualified for the finals in the 200 Fly. Dan Kunin earned the top spot with an 11th -place finish with a time of 1:50.36. Jay Jay Fonnotto finished in 18th with a time of 1:51.86.
 
Nathan Scott (1:53.92, 20th), Collin Meadows, (1:59.85, 29th), and Camden Bell (2:01.21, 31st) finished the swimmers in the standings.

COACHES CORNER:
"It was a good weekend overall," said head coach Tony Marleneanu. "We learned a lot from this meet, especially about where we stand at this point in the season and what we need to do going forward. We have had some amazing performances, but we still have some things to work on and improve before conference. I am super proud of my team."
 
UP NEXT: Florida Tech will have almost a month off from competition before hosting Lynn on Thursday, Dec. 19. First event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Panther Aquatic Center in Melbourne, Fla.
