Hajagos Earns Silver at SSC’s While Breaking Third Program Record

OCALA, Fla. – Panther men's swimming wrapped up day three of the 2024 SSC Swim Championship Thursday night as Akos Hajagos earned Tech's first medal finish of the championship. The Crimson and Gray finished day three jumping up to fifth place with 177 points.
 
Following day three, Tampa remained at the top of the standings with 423 points. Nova Southeastern remained in second with 351 points while Florida Southern sat in third place heading into day four with 293 points.
 
Freshman Akos Hajagos of Budapest, Hungary was the first Panther to make podium at this year's championship, taking home silver in the 400 IM with a time of 3:53.63. Hajagos's time not only earned him a silver at SSC's but also gave him his third program record as he now holds the fastest time in Program history in the 400 IM, 200 IM (1:49.56) and 200 Fly (1:47.64).
 
The 100 Fly saw a pair of Panthers earned the right to compete in the event as Jay Jay Fonnotto and Matteo Caruso would both take part in the evenings B Finals. With a time of 48.71, Fonnotto took second in the B finals with Caruso finishing a few tenths of a second behind Fonnotto four a fourth-place finish in the B Final at 49.12.
 
Luke Altmann was Tech's sole swimmer in the men's 200 Free B finals as the Cape Town, South Africa native put together a fifth-place finish with 1:39.41.
 
In relay action, the team of Zachary Reese, Connor Orth, Fonnotto and Altmann placed fifth in the 400 Medley Relay A Final, finishing the race in 3:17.36. in the B Final of the 400 Medley Relay, Tech's team of Daniel Aizenberg, Matthew Heaphy, Matteo Caruso, and Max Martino placed third with 3:19.80

Up Next: Day four of the SSC Swimming Championships will continue Saturday, February 17th morning at 10 A.M. starting off with prelims, followed by the finals later that night at 6 P.M.
