ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference has released its weekly awards with Florida Tech women's soccer sweeping the awards as
Ellinor Blaasternes was named SSC Offensive Player of the Week and
Mette Brandes SSC Defensive Player of the Week as announced by league office on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Ellinor Blaasternes, a sophomore from Bergen, Norway, scored two goals for four points during the Panther three-game stretch. In the win against RV Embry-Riddle, Blaasternes hit the dagger in the 81
st minute to give the Panthers a comfortable three-goal lead.
Her second goal came as a game-winning goal against Westminster as she scored within the first three minutes of the game as the goal stood in Tech's 1-0 win. Blaasternes is currently tied for third on the team with four goals while she as added two assists during the season.
Mette Brandes, a junior from Duesseldorf, Germany, earns SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors for a week where she had nine saves and two clean sheets. In the win against RV Embry-Riddle, Brandes saved two shots and collected her third clean sheet of the season.
In a tie on the road against a tough Colorado Mesa squad, Brandes faced the most shots against in a game this season as the Mavericks fired 16. She saved four shots including a couple of diving saves as the game ended in a 1-1 draw. She capped her week off with her fourth shutout of the season against Westminster with three saves in the game.
Blaasternes and Brandes are the fifth and sixth different Panthers to win an SSC weekly award this season, joining,
Eboni Bradshaw,
Alice Mottershead,
Lotte Waibel and
Iselin Brualokken.
Brandes, Blaasternes and the rest of the Panthers are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 7 as Tech travels to Barry for a matchup with the Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. EST.
