MIRAMAR, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's track team dominated in the relay, grabbing two ins in the 4x100 and 4x400. Nine individuals finished in the top-10, including Malachi Johnson's second place in the 400.
The Panthers began their outdoor season on a high-note by winning the 4x100-meter. Mikey Roberts, Bradley Erskine Jr., Gavin MacCoy and Ese Oguma ran a 41.26. Their time marks the second fastest time in program history.
In the 1500-meter, Tech landed four in the top-10 with Jake Greene leading the pack in fifth place and a time of 4:14.00. Followed by Brycen Haner and Jason Hargesheimer in sixth and seventh. Hargesheimer won the second heat and ran a 4:17.58 for a personal best by five seconds. Rhett Turner made ninth place to round out the Panthers.
Ese Oguma continued his strong outing with a 10.82 and sixth place in the 100-meter dash. The Panthers had four freshmen made the top-25, setting their first times of the spring.
Taking second in the 400-meter, Johnson sprinted to a 48.35. Roberts also made the top-10 with a time of 50.08.
Fillipo Bessi ran a strong 1:57.42 in the 800-meter for a top-5 placement. Tommy Wodazak just missed the top-10 with a 2:02.92.
Bessi returned two events later in the 200-meter and finished 11th at 22.78. Just behind him was freshman Austin Clate, running a 22.83 for 12th place. It was MacCoy who outshined all other Panthers, placing sixth clocking a 22.38.
Tech finished the meet how they started winning a relay. Roberts, Johnson, Oguma, and Bessi ran a school record 3:14 to win the event.
