DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's track team continued its strong run of performances with each meet, highlighted by a pair of individual victories in the 400-meter and 400-meter hurdles. The Panthers also closed the day with a win in the 4x400 relay.
Florida Tech opened competition in Daytona with the 4x100 relay team of Gavin MacCoy, Bradley Erskine Jr., Mikey Roberts, and Ese Oguma finishing third with a time of 42.15.
Ben Peck led the Panthers in the 1500-meter run, winning his heat and placing second overall with a time of 3:59.71. Noah Heal and Thomas Carpenter also secured top-10 finishes, while Tyler Herrera narrowly missed the mark in 11th place.
In the 110-meter hurdles, Diego Estebanes recorded a seventh-place finish with a time of 15.53 in his first-ever appearance in the event.
Tech showcased its strength in the 400 meters as Malachi Johnson posted a personal-best 48.02 to claim first place. Ogume followed closely behind with his own personal record of 48.12 for second place, while Erskine Jr. set a career-best time of 50.29 to finish 15th.
A few events later in the 400-meter hurdles, reigning SSC champion Filippo Bessi captured the event title with a time of 54.47. Estebanes continued his strong day with another standout performance, finishing second with a personal-best 55.42.
Later in the meet, Erskine Jr. finished 12th in the 200 meters, while Ethan Mudur placed 13th in the 5,000-meter run.
The Panthers closed the meet in impressive fashion as the 4x400 relay team of Roberts, Johnson, Ogume, and Bessi broke the school record they set just a week earlier, shaving 0.6 seconds off the mark with a time of 3:13.80. Florida Tech's second relay squad of Estebanes, Tommy Wodazak, Jason Hargesheimer, and Erskine Jr. also finished in the top 10 with a time of 3:26.29.
