Panthers Women’s Crew Battle Hard at Vails

CAMDEN, N.J. – The Lady Panthers Varsity Four finished 7th and the 2nd Varsity Four finished 6th at this year's very competitive Dad Vail Regatta held on the Cooper River May 8th and 9th.  Conditions on the course were challenging with strong winds and choppy water.
The Varsity Four placed 9th in the early Friday morning Time Trial which put them in a fast Semi-Final heat Friday afternoon where their 5th place finish time would have placed them second in the other Semi-Final.  With the top three finishes of each Semi-Final going to the Grand Final, they progressed to the 2nd Final on Sunday afternoon.
In the 2nd Final they were in third place behind Robert Morris and Fordham after the first 500 meters of the 2000-meter course.  Rowing at a slower stroke rating than the rest of the field, with grit and confidence they slowly moved up over the next 1000 meters to take the lead over Robert Morris University with 500 meters to go.  They then increased their stroke rating and their lead over the last 500 meters to win with open water over Robert Morris by 4.6 seconds with Monmouth edging out Fordham for third.
The women's 2V finished 6th in their Time Trial.  In their Semi-Final, Temple took off with a commanding lead while F.I.T.  battled M.I.T. down the challenging choppy water for second place.  The ladies pushed through M.I.T finishing ahead of them by 4 1/2 seconds.  However, it was a tough Grand Final with the Lady Panthers fighting hard all the way down the course finishing sixth with Georgetown, Temple and M.I.T. taking top three spots.
The Lady Panthers showed remarkable poise and determination at this year's very competitive regatta with crews from across the country.
UP NEXT: Panther Women's Crew will now turn their attention to the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championship Regatta next weekend in Oak Ridge, TN.
