MELBOURNE, Fla. (Volleyball) – Following a successful appearance at this year's South Region Crossover in Carrollton, Georgia, Florida Tech (10-7, 2-5 SSC) hopes to extend its winning streak in a road matchup with Sunshine State Conference rival Rollins (5-13, 1-5 SSC).
The Panthers won all three of their matches at the crossover, defeating Gulf South Conference opponents Christian Brothers (3-2), West Georgia (3-0) and Mississippi College (3-0).
Alea Hamm led FIT with a team-high 29 kills on 59 attempts and an attack percentage of .339 over the two days. The senior also topped the team with 11 total blocks in the three contests.
Also contributing to the Panthers' victories last week was Olivia Hersey, who notched 28 kills for the team. The freshman was effective on both ends of the net, finishing with an attack percentage of .364 and eight total blocks.
A number of Panthers had season-best performances in the win against CBU, including Kim Juriga and Hamm tallying 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Ashtin Truesdale dished out 45 assists and Becca Bower registered 24 digs, for season-highs against the Bucs. As a team, FIT recorded its most kills (61), attacks (191), assists (58) and digs (95) in a contest this season.
The Panthers will try to continue this level of play in their rematch with Rollins on Tuesday. FIT swept the Tars in their first meeting this season on Sept. 19 at the Clemente Center. In the match, FIT out-hit RC .330 to .102 and finished with a total of nine blocks.
Jenna Schaffer notched a match-high17 kills and 13 digs in the 3-0 win over the Tars, while running mate Marilyn Dick added 14 kills and eight digs. For Rollins, three players finished with six kills and Rebecca Wilson had a match-high 17 digs.
Game time between the Panthers and Tars is set for 7 p.m. at the Alfond Sports Center in Winter Park, Florida.
