MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech men's soccer sweeps Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors, with senior
Ettore Casadei being tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week and graduate student
Iker Bastida earning Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
This is the first time this season that both players have earned the weekly honor, and it is the first time in their careers.
Casadei played a significant role in Tech's 2-0 week, contributing to three out of the four Panther goals. In the 1-0 win against SSC rival Barry on Wednesday, Casadei scored the eventual game-winner in the 17
th minute on an assist by
Fabio Amaral.
In the 3-2 win against Tampa on Saturday, the Panthers were trailing 2-1 with 32 minutes to go. Casadei started the run for the equalizer, finding the feet of
Osvaldo Santana, who played a perfect pass to a wide-open
Joakim Jahnsen. Tied 2-2 with two minutes left in the match, Casadei headed the ball into the back of the net off a chip from teammate
Joeran Osland to lift the Panthers ahead of the Spartans.
Bastisa had a career night against Barry, recording a career-high six saves and his second consecutive shutout. The graduate student kept the Panthers in the match as he faced 12 shots and seven corner kicks. Bastida's efforts kept the Buccaneers scoreless for the first time this season and handed them their first SSC loss.

The men's soccer team is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when they hit the road to take on Palm Beach Atlantic. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
