JACKSON, Tenn. – The 2023 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) Men's Soccer All-South Region Teams were announced on Tuesday, and four Panthers were among the list of honorees. The teams were voted on by the sports communicators in the south region.
Florida Tech led the way, along with SSC members Barry and Rollins, with two first-team selections and four overall.
Sjur Drechsler and
Fabio Amaral were named to the All-South Region First Team, while
Ettore Casadei and
Nokkvi Nokkvason were voted to the second team. This is the second straight honor for Drechsler and the first for Amaral, Casadei, and Nokkvason.
Dreschler, a two-time All-SSC First Team selection, anchors the defense. The Panthers allowed just 1.20 goals per game in conference play, which ranked third in the SSC. Additionally, the Stavanger, Norway native, tallied two goals and two assists, including the go-ahead goal against Palm Beach Atlantic.
Amaral, an All-SSC First Team honoree, appeared in 15 matches, making 13 starts. The Salvador, Brazil native is second on the team with 18 points on eight goals and two assists, including one game-winner.
Casadei, a Cervia, Italy native, appeared in every game this season, providing an offensive spark. The forward leads the Panthers with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. He's notched four game-winners, including the winning goal against Lynn in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Nokkvason, a defender out of Gardabear, Iceland, helped the Panthers in the back line, posting four clean sheets in conference play. He's started 16 of his 17 appearances, registering three assists for three points.
The Panthers are back on the pitch Thursday, Nov. 30, when they travel to Gaffney, S.C., to take on West Florida in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
