Multiple School Records Set at Day Three of SSC Championships

OCALA, Fla. – The Florida Tech swimming programs continued competition in the 2025 Sunshine State Championships on Friday at the Florida Aquatics Swimming and Training (FAST).

At the conclusion of Friday's activity, another spot for next month's national championships in Indianapolis was secured, and two more school record times were on the board.

Entering the weekend, the Tech women remain in fifth place with 135 points, while the Panther men hold seventh place with 133 points.

WOMEN'S STANDOUTS

  • Torie Whitbeck started the day on the right foot for Tech in the 100 Fly prelims as she set a new school record in the event with her time of 56.60. This breaks the previous record of 57.00 set by Whitbeck herself at the 2023 Panther Invite.
  • For the second day in a row, a new school record was set by a relay team, this time in the 400 Medley Relay by the quartet of Melissa Zucco, Rae Ann Dressel, Whitbeck, and Debora Xavier. Their finish of 3:48.90 breaks the previous record of 3:51.64 set by Christina Ramirez, Dressel, Whitbeck, and Xavier at the 2023 Panther Invite.
  • Miranda Olhasso recorded a Top 15 finish in the 100 Fly thanks to a time of 57.00.

MEN'S STANDOUTS

  • During the 200 Free prelims, Adam Szczerba (1:39.51) and Josh McLean (1:39.95) both posted B-Cut times for the NCAA Championships. Efe Ongoren's 1:38.77 time was also good enough to qualify, but he had already qualified for the event in October.
  • Dan Kunin confirmed he'll be competing in at least two events at the national championships with his 48.21 time in the 100 Fly final meeting the qualifying standards.
  • Connor Bryant placed inside the top 15 of the 400 IM thanks to a finish of 4:04.97.
  • In the 400 Medley Relay A Final, the group of Zachary Reese, Matthew Heaphy, Kunin, and Ongoren placed seventh thanks to a 3:19.54 finish. The B Final saw the team of Dylan Ostolaza, David Armstrong, Jay Jay Fonnotto, and Akos Hajagos take fifth with a time of 3:20.20.

UP NEXT: Saturday's action at the SSC Championships begins at 10 A.M. with the prelims, followed by the start of the finals at 6 P.M. Among the events scheduled on day four are the 500 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 Fly, and 200 Free Relay.
