Tech Baseball Takes Series Finale, Splits Doubleheader with ERAU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – Panther baseball was back in action this afternoon to wrap up their series with Embry-Riddle. In what was an even day at the field with both teams scoring 14 runs in 18 innings of baseball, the Panthers came away with a doubleheader split.

SSC PLAY – DOUBLEHEADER GAME ONE
Final: Florida Tech Panthers 7, Embry-Riddle Eagles 11
Records: Florida Tech (15-21, 6-14 SSC) | Embry-Riddle (16-18, 8-9 SSC)
Location: Sliwa Stadium | Daytona Beach, Florida

GAME NOTES:
  • This afternoon's doubleheader did not begin in the Panthers' favor as the Eagles jumped on the board right away with a six-run first inning.
  • Marcello Cortale, Justis Meadows, and Adrian Dominguez all recorded base hits in the first few innings but were all left stranded.
  • Following three straight scoreless innings, the Eagles added another run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take an 11-0 lead.
  • Needing to start finding some offense, Tech put up two runs in the sixth by loading the bases and earning an RBI hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly.
  • After a scoreless inning on the mound from Jake Hershey, the Panthers rallied for more runs in the seventh. Marcello Cortale, Marshall Burke and Brian Perez all earned hits, with the inning being capped off by a Justis Meadows home run to cut the lead to 11-7.
  • While the Panthers came back to put themselves within striking distance, they were shut out in the final two innings, and the Eagles held on to win the first game of the day.
FINAL: Florida Tech 7, Embry-Riddle 11

GAME NOTES:
  • Game two of today's doubleheader began with a scoreless first inning before the Eagles opened up the scoring with a two-run second inning.
  • Tech responded in the top of the third to cut the deficit in half. Anthony Fimiano doubled to lead off the inning and scored when the next batter, Conner Wiggins, singled up the middle.
  • The 2-1 ERAU lead grew in the bottom half of the inning as the Eagles pushed across a run to go up by two.
  • After a scoreless fourth inning, Anthony Fiminao led off the top of the fifth with a single and came around to score when Connor Wiggins tripled down the left field line. The Panthers were not done yet as Adrian Dominguez brought Wiggins home with a single to left field.
  • With the score tied at 3-3, Marshall Burke came up big with an RBI double to give the Panthers the lead. Brian Perez tacked on another run with a fielder's choice and Tech led by two.
  • Leading 5-3, Noah Steckley entered the game in relief and was flawless, tossing three straight shutout innings to preserve the Tech advantage.
  • In the top of the seventh, Marshall Burke gave the Panthers a pair of insurance runs with a two-run home run over the left field wall.
  • Steckley handed the ball off to Brady Guthrie in the bottom of the eighth, and he induced a double play to end the inning and send the game to the ninth, up 7-3.
  • Guthrie came back out for the final inning of the game and finished the job to give the Panthers the series finale win.
