MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech swim teams hosted the first day of the 3rd Annual Panther Invitational on Friday at the Panther Aquatic Center.
The Panther women are currently in sixth place after day one of the meet with 131 points, while the men lead the way, also with 131 points.
A school record was broken in the women's 200 yard freestyle relay as the team of
Valentina Carvajal,
Neta Saar,
Mikaela Barger and
Savannah Brennan touched the wall at 1:35.64, good for fourth place in the race.
The men's relay of
Victor Rocha Furtado,
Adi Davidov,
Edward Ilako and
Filip Dujmic won their 200 freestyle relay and earned a provisional standard time of 1:20.78 in the process. Rocha Furtado achieved a B-standard time of 19.97 in the first leg to help FIT get off to a great start in the heat.
Carvajal took third place in the women's 500 yard freestyle, finishing with a new school record, and B-standard time, of 5:00.40.
Emanuele Rossi earned first place in the men's 500 freestyle in a B-standard time of 4:32.22, 0.94 seconds ahead of second place Matija Rafaj of Saint Leo.Â
In the women's 200 yard individual medley, Brennan set a new school record, and B-standard time, of 2:05.24 to take second overall in the race.
Yagoh Kubagawa won the men's 200 IM with a B-standard of 1:50.55, 1.39 seconds ahead of the next competitor.
Four Panthers made up the top seven spots in the men's 50 yard freestyle final. Rocha Furtado (20.04) and Dujmic (20.79) earned B-standard times and took first and third in the race, respectively. Davidov finished fourth at 21.02, while
Thomas Steenberg ended in seventh at 21.17.
The women's 400 medley relay of
Paulina Bjorkbacka, Brennan, Barger and Carvajal set a new school record with a time of 3:53.67, good for seventh overall in the final.

The Panther Invitational continues Saturday at the Panther Aquatic Center. Session three is set to start at 10 a.m. and the session four finals will kickoff at 6 p.m.
