Hall of Fame
Florida Tech's 1991 Men's Soccer Team was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in the Class of 2008. Coach Rick Stottler led the squad to their second NCAA Division II National Championship in his sixth season and finished the season with an impressive record of 19-2-1. The team also won the SSC Regular Season Title.
Building on their success, the Panthers made two more NCAA Tournament appearances in 1989 and 1990, including a thrilling Final Four run in 1990. In a historic fifth-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, the Panthers emerged victorious, bringing home the national title for the second time in school history.
Florida Tech would host all three rounds of the NCAA Tournament, and the program only lost two games in the previous three appearances. The Panthers defeated conference foe Tampa in a 2-1 victory in Melbourne. The Panthers again won another game 2-1 with an Eddie Enders goal to secure the result against Franklin Pierce.
In the National Championship, Sonoma State was first on the board, taking a 1-0 lead 11 minutes in. The Panthers responded with 15 minutes remaining in the first half; Colin Semwayo redirected a Colin Prest shot into the net, tying the game 1-1. Enders was taken down in the box with 23 minutes remaining in the second half, and Richard Sharpe converted the penalty kick to give Florida Tech a 2-1 lead. Less than two minutes later, Sharpe scored on a 25-yard bullet to advance the lead to 3-1. Five minutes later, the Panthers made it 4-1 when Semwayo scored his second goal of the match. Sharpe completed his hat trick—the eighth time he scored three or more goals in a game during the 1991 season—to cap the 5-1 triumph.Â
