Tom Finney, a baseball player at Florida Tech from 1988-91, was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in the Class of 2005. Finney's unique achievements include being the all-time program leader in pitching wins with 29, strikeouts with 353 and shutouts with seven. He was also second in innings pitched (381.0) and complete games (25). After his career at Florida Tech, Finney played for the New York Mets Organization. He also was recognized on the SSC Silver Anniversary Baseball Team.

Finney was a massive contributor to a Panther team that made the program's first NCAA Regional appearance in 1991. On the mound, he tied for the most wins in a season and completed 11 and 12 games, respectively, in the second most innings pitched with 139.1. He also recorded four shutout games, which is the most by a Panther player in a single season. Finney earned All-SSC and NCAA All-South Region First Team honors. He received All-America status in the NCAA as well.

In 1989, Finney fanned 123 batters for the most in a season in program history, leading to All-SSC and NCAA All-South Region Second Team honors.
