Bill Jurgens, the first Crew Head Coach in program history, was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1999. Jurgens was the inaugural Crew Coach in 1969 and held the position until 1988. He led the rowing team to three national men's overall titles in consecutive seasons (1986, 87, 88). Jurgens also won two National Men's and Women's Overall Titles in 1982 and 1987, helped by defeating Temple University's Varsity 8 in both years. He combined to win 17 Florida Overall Collegiate Titles, 16 Southeastern Overall Collegiate Titles, and 13 National (Dad Vail) Individual Titles. Individually, Jurgens earned the Southeastern Region Coach of the Year Award in 1987, Dad Vail Coach of the Year in 1986, and Coach of the Year Lightweight Comp in 1980. During his coaching tenure, Jurgens took over as Florida Tech's Director of Athletics from 1976-2020. In 1991-92, he helped the department win the Sunshine State Conference Men's All-Sports Champion title.
