Jim Mitchell was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame on March 19, 2016. Mitchell has been a constant figure at Florida Tech basketball games over the past 37 years. Since he started broadcasting in 1979, he has done over 500 games, all as a volunteer. His voice detailed some of the most memorable moments in Panther basketball history, including victories over Dartmouth (1985), UMass (1989), and Boston College (1989), as well as several SSC Championship and NCAA Tournament games.

He helped pioneer the transition from radio-only to streaming and video broadcasting, which allowed more fans to follow their favorite teams. He has traveled the country with the teams, announcing tournaments in Providence, Las Vegas and Alaska.

Mitchell extended his years of experience in broadcasting at the Florida Tech basketball games at no charge in 1979. He took over the basketball broadcast for the first time and never looked back.
