Dwight Walton, a member of the men's basketball program from 1988-91, was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Walton's performance was nothing short of exceptional, making him one of the most dominant players in SSC and Florida Tech history. His records speak for themselves-he is second in career rebounds (861) and three-point percentage (.458), fourth in points per game (17.35), eighth in field goals made (540), and eighth in field goal percentage (.563). Walton's achievements include being in both the Florida Tech 1,000-point club and 500-rebound club, and being named to the Sunshine State Conference 25th Anniversary Team.

Walton's senior year was a testament to his leadership and skill. He led the team in points with 442 and rebounds with 243, ranking fourth in a season by a Panther. His three-point shooting was also impressive, with 42 made three-pointers out of 84 attempts for a 50 percent clip, the second highest in program history. Walton's contributions were instrumental in guiding the team to a 26-4 record and an SSC Championships final, with wins over Eckerd and Rollins. His performance earned him a spot on the SSC All-Tournament Team, All-SSC First Team honors, and recognition by NABC on the All-America Second Team.

Walton put up his best numbers in his second season of 1989-90, compiling 496 points and the second-most rebounds in a season by a Panther with 310. The 310 rebounds are also sixth in SSC history for a single season. He was a crucial piece for a Panther team with a program record of 26-4 seasons, and making the second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to the Sweet 16. The team also shares the SSC Regular Season Title with Tampa. Walton made the SSC All-Tournament Team and was an All-SSC First Team selection. NABC awarded him his second straight All-American Third Team honor.

In his first year at Florida Tech, Walton became the program's first NABC All-American with a third-team selection. He earned it by scoring 572 points, which was the third-most points scored in a season for the program. He also hauled in 309 rebounds, which was second in school history before he broke it himself. He was essential to the Panthers, going 22-8 and making the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance. He made the SSC All-Tournament Team and grabbed his first All-SSC First Team selection.
