Chris Payne, a standout member of the men's soccer team from 1987-90, was inducted into the prestigious Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1996. Payne is the program and NCAA record holder and has assisted with 87 in his career. He is also in the program's top 10 goals scored and the top five points. 

In his senior season, Payne broke the NCAA Division II record for assists, recording a whopping four and averaging two per game during the 1990 season. Along with his 46 assists, he put the ball in the back of the net 27 times, the second most in NCAA Division II history, and scored 100 points on the year. On his way to the NCAA Final Four, Payne earned first-team All-SSC and All-America. He also earned All-State First Team and All-South Region First Team.

Payne was a huge reason the Panthers went 17-3 and shared the SSC Regular Season Title with Tampa. He tallied 16 assists on his way to the NCAA Sweet 16 and grabbed his second All-SSC Second Team selection. He also earned All-State First Team. 

He helped the Panthers to the program's first NCAA Division II National Championship in 1988. He earned his first All-SSC Second Team selection.
