Fitzgerald "Fidgi" Haig was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame on Feb. 1, 2013. Haig played 58 games from 1987-90 with the men's soccer team. He helped the Panthers to two SSC Regular Season Championships, four straight regional appearances, two NCAA Division II Regional Championships, and their first NCAA Division II Men's Soccer title in 1988. He is fourth in program history in goals (45) and fifth in points (108). Haig later moved into coaching from the high school level to the college level.
Haig's final season saw the Panthers reach their fourth straight and overall appearance to NCAA Regionals, including a Regional Championship win on their way to the Final Four. Haig was critical in the 1990 NCAA Regional Championships against UNC-Greensboro, scoring the game-winning goal. He earned NSCAA All-Region.
Florida Tech won the SSC Regular Season Title in his junior season and made the NCAA Division II Regional. Haig grabbed All-SSC Second Team and FISCA All-State First Team in 1989.
In the 1988 season, Haig helped guide the Panthers to the program's first SSC Regular-Season Title and NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship. He recorded 14 goals, tied most of the team, and 38 points, which was second. One of his goals was the game-winning shot against Gannon in the 1988 NCAA Division II South Region Championship; another was the first goal scored in the NCAA National Championship. Haig was awarded All-SSC First Team.
Haig's sophomore year, he guided the program to its first NCAA Regional appearance and eventually to the Elite Eight. Individually, Haig tallied 16 goals, which was the ninth-most in a season by a Panther and tied for most in the SSC. He also recorded the second-most points by a player in the SSC with 35. He received All-SSC First Team, FISCA All-State First Team, and NSCAA All-Region honors.
After his career at Florida Tech, Haig went to coach at Satellite High School. He finished with a record of 231-18-8 (.914 winning percentage) and two state championships in 2002 and 2003. His winning percentage ranks fourth among Florida high school girls soccer coaches. Haig received the United States Youth Soccer Adidas National Coach of the Year in 2005.
Haig coached the Panthers' women's soccer team for 10 seasons, guiding them to the program's first NCAA Division II South Region Championship and a Final Four appearance in 2010. The team finished ranked fourth in the country that season and, the following season, led the program to its first No. 1 national ranking in 2011.
