Hall of Fame
Jeanne Ann Flanagan, a member of the women's rowing team, was the inaugural inductee into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. Flanagan's journey to the top was challenging. She qualified for the 1980 U.S. Olympic team, only to be thwarted by the US Olympic Committee's boycott of the Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia. However, her perseverance paid off four years later when she was a vital member of the American women's eight team that clinched the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California, the country's first. The team recorded a time of 2:59.80, almost a minute ahead of the Romanian team.
Flanagan also competed in the eights at the 1979, 1981, and 1985 World Championships, winning a silver medal in 1981 and a bronze medal in 1979. As a Panther, Flanagan was named the women's rowing captain in her senior season of 1979. She was also inducted into the first Interstate Bank Rowing Hall of Fame in 1985.
