Hall of Fame
Percy Hedgecock was inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1986. Hedgecock is a five-time National Softball Championship and four-time World Softball Championship-winning head coach.
The former mayor of Satellite Beach, Florida, dedicated his latter years to philanthropy and education leadership. In 1985, he received the Community Foundation of Brevard’s Philanthropist of the Year award. From 1981-1987, he served on the Florida Institute of Technology Board of Trustees. He also served as a council chairman on the Florida Tech Athletic Advisory Council and chairman of the Florida Tech Athletic Scholarship Fund. The University named the gymnasium in his honor.
Hedgecock was also inducted into the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Honor and USA Softball Hall of Fame. The adult women's teams he coached placed second twice, third, and 12th in the ASA national tournaments before he switched to coaching youth at the end of the 1972 season. Hedgecock was instrumental in developing youth softball in the area, including hosting 10 of the first 12 ASA youth nationals. He also managed youth and adult teams, with his youth teams winning national titles in 1975, 1977, 1981, and 1981.
He founded Satellite Beach in 1957 and served as the city's mayor from 1957 to 1973.
