Davon Kelly, an exceptional member of the men's basketball team from 1986-90, was bestowed with the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Florida Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. His four-year starting career was marked by an unwavering dedication, never missing a single game. Kelly's contributions are unparalleled, earning him a special place in the Panthers' 1,000-point and 300-assist club and making him the program's all-time career points leader.
Kelly helped the Panthers to the program's first SSC Regular Season Title and second NCAA Tournament appearance with a 26-4 overall record. Florida Tech made it to the NCAA Sweet 16 before concluding its season. Kelly recorded 476 points on 57.1 percent from the field, 24 made three-pointers, 128 rebounds, and 164 assists. His 164 assists are the second most by a Panther in a single season. He was crucial to Florida Tech, earning a top 10 ranking at no. 9 during the year. He earned All-SSC Second Team honors, the second All-SSC team of his career.
The Panthers went 22-8 and made their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance with the help of Kelly. He compiled 504 points on 51.4 percent shooting, 45 made three-pointers, 99 rebounds, and team-leading 136 assists. During the season, Kelly hit the final free throws to defeat Division I Boston College.
In his sophomore year, Kelly earned his first All-SSC selection, making the First Team in 1987-88. Kelly scored a team-leading 471 points, hitting 33 three-pointers and grabbing 122 rebounds in 28 games. This followed a year Kelly made the SSC All-Freshman team in 1886-87.
